What it's for

What this system reduces

  • Chlorine & chloramine
  • Chlorine taste & odor
  • Many organic compounds (VOCs)

We describe the reduction of these substances. Results depend on your incoming water and configuration.

Is the Black Diamond 1.0 right for my home?

Pick the Black Diamond carbon filter when the problem is taste and smell — chlorine and that treated-water flavor — rather than scale. It's coconut-shell carbon with no salt, so it suits city-water homes that don't have a hardness complaint. Straight talk: carbon does not reduce nitrate or hardness; for nitrate you want the CrystalCore RO, and for scale you want a softener.

Best for

Homes on treated city water where taste and smell are the issue and hardness isn't the main worry.

Good to know

Black Diamond 1.0 questions

Does carbon filtration soften water?

No. Carbon reduces chlorine, taste, odor and many organics, but not hardness. For scale and spotting you want a softener or the combo.

Will it reduce nitrate?

No. Activated carbon does not reduce nitrate — that needs reverse osmosis at the drinking tap (our Aquonyx CrystalCore RO). If your test shows nitrate we'll recommend the RO instead of this.

How often is the media serviced?

The metered backwash keeps the carbon working, and whole-home carbon media is typically replaced on a multi-year cycle depending on your water and usage. We provide the expected schedule.
